This course involves studio and location work. It enables students to develop drawing and observational skills and to explore creativity and personal expression through a broad range of creative processes including Sculpture, Mixed Media, Printmaking, and Fine Art based Photography. All projects are broad enough to allow students to develop a portfolio suitable to their particular interests - Fine Art, Design, Photography etc. A one week field trip takes place in the first term to stimulate the students' observational skills and creative development.

Course Content:

Drawing and Painting (including Life Drawing), Mixed Media, 3D Studies, Printmaking, Photography and Fine Art Imagery, Communications, History of Art, Work Experience.

Entry Requirements:

Five passes in Leaving Certificate/LCVP or a merit in Leaving Certificate Applied or FETAC level 4 Certificate. Art Portfolio (See guidelines). The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).

Certification:

FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Art (AAXXX)

Progression:

Graduates are eligible to apply to progress to Higher Education Courses through the Higher Education Links Scheme and through the Pilot Scheme. Graduates with a merit profile may apply for entry to BTEC Higher National Diploma courses in Art and Graphic Design in BCFE.

Portfolio Guidelines:

ADM, AGP and ADT are portfolio preparation courses. Applicants may apply for all three courses on one application form if they wish. Advice will be given by the interview panel in relation to the most suitable portfolio course.
PORTFOLIO GUIDELINES FOR ADM AND AGP: Applicants should bring to interview a selection of 12 to 18 pieces of recent observational studies. The work should include both quick sketches and detailed drawings which demonstrate the ability to deal with line, tone, texture, colour and form using a variety of media (e.g. pencil, charcoal, pastel, oil, paint). Sketchbooks or notebooks can be included in the portfolio submission.
