This programme involves technical operations of modern sound equipment and music technology. It aims to equip students with a skill set that allows them to enter a career or follow further academic pursuits within this discipline. Students work with performers and musicians in the recording studios to produce master tapes and other media. Other work involves live sound, desktop audio production and developing multi-media content. Successful students can expect to find employment in the media, entertainment and music industries as sound engineers, editors, midi production programmers and pro-audio sales.

Contextual Studies, Critical Music Listening, Music Business and the Entrepreneur, Music, Health and the Law, Principles of Musical Sound, Project Realisation, Research, Computer Music Systems, Audio Post-Production, Audio Recording, Computer Music Production, Live Sound System Operations, Live Sound System Specification, Modern Composition, Sound Creation and Manipulation, Studio Production.

Entry Requirements:

Leaving Certificate / LCVP with a minimum of two HC3s and three passes at ordinary level or FETAC level 5 Certificate with a merit profile or BTEC National Diploma with a merit profile. Students are required to bring to interview an audio CD with two pieces of self recorded music clearly labelled and indexed. A copy of a CV and any references should also be available for the interview. The entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).

Progression:

Graduates may gain exemption from one or two years of degree courses in the UK. Graduates who achieve a merit/distinction may apply for entry to BA (Hons) in Media Production Management in BCFE.
