Course Code PTH, Duration: 2 Years
This course is suitable for musicians/singers who wish to pursue a career in traditional music. The course is
practical in nature with an emphasis on performance. Students perform on a regular basis in various venues
throughout Dublin and beyond. In 2nd year students are expected to record, engineer and produce their own CD,
using College facilities. Another feature of the course is regular visits and guest lectures by leading figures in the
world of traditional music.
Performance, Multi-instrumental Composition, Sound, Midi-interfacing, Source Material, Sequencing and Recording, Music Industry, Instrumental or Vocal Tuition, Applied Musicianship, Traditional Music Around the World, CD Recording and Production.
Leaving Certificate / LCVP with a minimum of two HC3s and three passes at ordinary level or FETAC Llevel 5 Certificate with a merit profile or BTEC National Diploma with a merit profile. All applicants will be auditioned. The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).
BTEC Higher National Diploma in Professional Traditional Music Performance.
Graduates are expected to gain access to the professional traditional music circuit. Graduates who achieve a Distinction/Merit profile may, subject to interview and audition, apply for direct entry into year 3 of the BA (hons) in Applied Music in Dundalk Institute of Technology. Graduates who achieve a merit/distinction may also apply for entry to BA (Hons) in Media Production Management in BCFE.
