This course prepares students for work in the Multimedia, Web and Design industries. The emphasis of the course is on the applications of both design and technology. Software used to create digital media products includes Adobe Director, Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop and Illustrator, Sound Forge, Reason and 3D Max.

Course Content:

Computer Applications in Art and Design, Computing Fundamentals, Multimedia Principles, Multimedia Web Authoring, Image Manipulation Applications, 3D Principles, Cultural Interpretation, Multimedia Design and Authoring, 3D Techniques, Sound Production and Editing, Professional Team Brief, 2D and 4D Digital Applications, Ideas in Context, Interface Design Principles, Small Business.

Entry Requirements:

Leaving Certificate / LCVP with a minimum of two HC3s and three passes at ordinary level or FETAC level 5 Certificate with a merit profile. Preference will be given to applicants who have a portfolio which illustrates design and technical capabilities.

Certification:

BTEC Higher National Diploma in Multimedia.

Progression:

Graduates may continue their studies to degree level in universities in the UK such as Napier and Wolverhampton and in Ireland in IT Tallaght, DCU, CIT and BCFE.
