This multi-disciplinary course aims to provide students with a wide and versatile range of skills within the area of Fibre Art and to produce highly innovative and creative artists with a professional approach and attitude to their work. Strong emphasis is placed on the integration of visual studies and design skills with a contemporary approach to applied art techniques.

Course Content:

Year One: Visual Studies, Textile Art, Fine Art Printmaking, Printed Textiles, Ceramic Art Techniques, Historical and Contemporary Studies. In Year two students select a personal theme. To complement this, business and professional studies enable students to explore the idea of establishing their own smallbusiness and professional practice. Mandatory modules include Visual Studies, Textile Art, Printed Textiles, Fine Art Photography, Critical Studies and Producing the Artefact.

Entry Requirements:

Leaving Certificate / LCVP with a minimum of two HC3s one of which must be in Art and three passes at ordinary level or any FETAC level 5 Certificate in Art with a merit profile. A portfolio which shows creativity and artistic ability in this area should be brought to interview (See guidelines). The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).

BTEC Higher National Diploma in Fibre Art

Progression:

Students may apply for direct entry into the second year of degree courses in NCAD, Limerick Institute of Technology and in colleges in Northern Ireland and in the UK. Students who graduate with a merit profile are accepted into third year of the degree in Applied Arts in Wolverhampton University. Please note that for entry to NCAD Leaving Certificate minimum requirements or FETAC level 5 with five distinctions is required.

Portfolio Guidelines:

A portfolio must be presented at interview which includes observational drawing, ideas notebooks and finished pieces. These should show an exploration of themes, drawing approaches and media.
