Focused on web broadcast journalism, this two-year full-time course aims to give students the understanding and the practical skills required to gain employment in both on-line media organizations and in the on-line aspect of traditional media and non-media organizations. Covering print journalism, radio, TV and PR it will enable students to meet the dynamic demands of today's changing media environment whether these arise from technological developments or changes in employment trends. Subjects studied comprise the practical and theoretical, culminating in a media web project in the second year and work placements in both years.

Radio Operation, Research Techniques, Writing and Journalism Skills, Radio Journalism, Page Layout and Design, Broadcast Presentation, Practical TV Skills, Media Law, Politics and Current Affairs, Media Industries, PR, TV Project, TV Journalism and Documentary, Web Design, Contextual Studies and Media Project.

Entry Requirements:

Leaving Certificate / LCVP with a minimum of two HC3s one of which must be in English and three passes at ordinary level or FETAC level 5 Certificate with a merit profile or BTEC National Diploma with a merit profile. Applicants must present a portfolio of written, audio or visual work at interview. The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).

Certification:

Higher National Diploma in Media - Edexcel (BTEC Level 4)

Progression:

Graduates may gain exemption from one or two years of degree courses in the UK. Graduates who achieve a merit/distinction in the Higher National Diploma may apply for entry to BA (Hons) in Media Production Management in BCFE.
