This course aims to give students a broad understanding of Media techniques and working practices in print, radio and television. Great emphasis is placed on self-motivation, time management and group interaction. All aspects of the course are integrated and are assessed through individual and group assignments and projects.

Course Content:

Media Images, Media in Context, Media Production, Work Practice in the Media, Media Workshop, Recording for Tape and Radio, Presentation, Radio Production Skills, Television/Video Production Skills, Print Journalism, Information Technology, Desktop Publishing, Work Experience.

Entry Requirements:

Five passes in Leaving Certificate/LCVP or a merit in Leaving Certificate Applied or FETAC level 4 Certificate. Applicants should bring relevant work to the interview. The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).

Certification:

BTEC National Diploma in Media

Progression:

Graduates with a BTEC National Diploma are qualified to enter 1st year of degree courses in the UK system and may also progress to Higher National Diploma courses in BCFE (merit profile required).
