This is a comprehensive course aiming to provide the student with the skills needed to work in all aspects of Radio Broadcasting. Students gain practical experience running professional radio stations including an FM Radio station which broadcasts to the Dublin area, Emerald Radio a short wave and Internet station and the Internal College Radio.

Course Content:

Making Radio Programmes, Practical Skills (Audio), Broadcast Voice, Marketing and Research Applications, Media Finance, Media Analysis, Multimedia Web Authoring, Radio Station Management, Advanced Radio Programmes, Media Project, Marketing Communications, Politics and Current Affairs, Human Resource Management, Radio News Journalism, Audio Drama Production, Media Law.

Entry Requirements:

Leaving Certificate / LCVP with a minimum of two HC3s and three passes at ordinary level or FETAC level 5 Certificate with a merit profile or BTEC National Diploma with a merit profile. Applicants should present any relevant work and demonstrate an interest in and aptitude for radio at the interview. The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).

BTEC Higher National Diploma in Media Production (Radio)

Progression:

Graduates may gain exemption from one or two years of degree courses in the UK. Graduates who achieve a merit/distinction in the Higher National Diploma may apply for entry to BA (Hons) in Media Production Management in BCFE.
