Higher National Diploma in Music Production

This programme involves technical operations of modern sound equipment and music technology. It aims to equip students with a skill set that allows them to enter a career or follow further academic pursuits within this discipline. Students work with performers and musicians in the recording studios to produce master tapes and other media. Other work involves live sound, desktop audio production and developing multi-media content. Successful students can expect to find employment in the media, entertainment and music industries as sound engineers, editors, midi production programmers and pro-audio sales.

Course Content:

Creative Arts Research Skills, Critical Music Listening, Music in Context, Preparation, Process and Production in the Creative Arts, Audio Post Production, Computer Music Composition and Production, Computer Music Systems, Live Sound for Small Venues, The Music Business in the 21st Century, Composing for Film and Television, Music Studio Production, Music, Health and the Law, Principles of Musical Sound, Sound Creation and Manipulation, Studio Recording and Engineering, Public Performance Technology.

Entry Requirements:

Leaving Certificate / LCVP with a minimum of two HC3s and three passes at ordinary level or FETAC level 5 Certificate with a merit profile or BTEC National Diploma with a merit profile. Students are required to bring to interview an audio CD with two pieces of self recorded music clearly labelled and indexed. A copy of a CV and any references should also be available for the interview. The entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).

BTEC Higher National Diploma in Music Production

Progression:

Graduates may gain exemption from one or two years of degree courses in the UK. Graduates who achieve a merit/distinction may apply for entry to BA (Hons) in Media Production Management in BCFE.

Analog Recording Studio, Digital Recording Studio,10 Midi Programming Stations, Mobile 2kw PA System, Multi-Media Computer Room, Sound Programming Room. 24 Individual Midi Terminals, 8 Recording Booths, State of the Art PA System in Purpose Built Venue, Pro-tools HD2 Surround System. Software includes Cubase SX, Propellerhead Reason 6, Soundforge, Logic and Ableton Live,and Sony Vegas.
