Preliminary Engineering

Course Code ENG, Duration: 1 Year

This course is a bridging course which prepares students for entry into the first year of Engineering in DIT Bolton St and Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Computer Engineering in DIT Kevin St. It is suitable for students who do not meet the Science and higher level Mathematics requirements for direct entry into first year Engineering. The course is run in conjunction with the Dublin Institute of Technology.

Course Content:

Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanics, Computer Studies, Communications, Engineering Project, Engineering Workshop Mechanical and Electrical, Engineering Drawing.

Entry Requirements:

Leaving Certificate with a minimum of two HC3s and three passes at Ordinary Level, including an OB3 in Mathematics and an OC3 in English. A science subject,while not essential is desirable. The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).

Certification:

DIT Foundation Certificate in Professional Engineering (Level 6)

Progression:

Students who receive satisfactory grades are accepted into DIT level 8 Honours Degree programmes Engineering DT025, Transport Technology DT028, Electrical/Electronic Engineering DT021 and Computer Engineering DT081 and into DIT level 7 Engineering Systems Maintenance DT002.
