Higher National Diploma In Fibre Art & Textile Design

This two year programme offers the student the opportunity to research and develop a thorough understanding of a range of art and design techniques employed within the area of textile fibre art. Through a variety of briefs and competitions the students explore research and resolution techniques that are resolved through different art, design and textile/ fibre formats. The student will develop a broad portfolio that will equip them for employment or to continue with enhancing their education to degree level.

Course Content:

Visual Studies, Design techniques, Textile Fibre Art, Fibre Manipulation, Fine Art Print, Printed Textiles, Ceramics, Historical and Contemporary Studies, Further Observation Studies, Textile Design Techniques, Ideas in Context, Photography, Design in Use, Professional Practice and Critical Studies over the course of two years

Entry Requirements:

Leaving Certificate / LCVP with a minimum of two HC3s one of which must be in Art and three passes at ordinary level or any FETAC level 5 Certificate in Art with a merit profile. A portfolio which shows creativity and artistic ability in this area should be brought to interview (See guidelines). The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).

Progression:

Our graduates have gone into many diverse areas of employment from the programme, such as special effects, stylist, fashion editor, accessories designer, fashion, textile and interior designers. However, most of our graduates progress to further education to degree level.

Portfolio Guidelines:

A portfolio of recent work that includes
Direct observation studies of life and different environments that display your direct observation skills and use of media an d techniques. Variety in scale, detail, colour, texture and media usage should be included.
Mixed media, fine art print, flat or printed textile work and collage can be included.
Recent three dimensional work can photographed for portfolio. This work can be brought with you if called to interview.
